Properties

Wool is simultaneously water-repellent and moisture-wicking, almost like a natural membrane. This may seem counterintuitive but think of the sheep. It does not want to get too wet from any source, consequently the wool keeps liquid moisture at bay but allows sweat to move away from the skin a water vapour.

The chemical structure of wool offers storage space to vaporized water molecules up to a third of its weight and releases heat in the process leaving you with a dry skin feel and aiding evaporation. The same mechanism also lets your wool clothing stay fresh longer by locking away most bacteria prone to producing undesirable odours and only releases them upon washing.

These unique properties rooted in the natural molecular makeup of wool fibres are impossible to achieve with synthetic fibres.

Fabrics

Exclusively superfine quality 18.5 micron Merino wool is used to manufacture our knitwear.

Wool quality depends on how fine the single fibres growing on the sheep are. Merino sheep grow some of the finest wool fibres in the world. Among these merino fibres there is a small fraction of superfine fibres below the width of 18.5 micron, less than a third of a human hair. This rare raw material is used to produce the precious Super 100’s yarns we knit our apparel from.

In contrast to higher diameter wool fibres, superfine 18.5 micron merino wool fibres bend more readily and are therefore very gentle when worn directly on the skin. This is further assisted by the natural crimps of merino wool fibres further improving skin feel and providing a superiorly supple and itch-free wool experience.
